knight
Life: Heart.pngHeart.pngHeart.png
Type: Melee

The primary skill of the Knight is to attack with his sword. Being a melee warrior, the Knight is proficient in the use of a shield to protect himself and others from harm. Equipped with bombs the Knight can be a terrifying enemy.

  • [Left click] - Fight with the sword. Click once to attack. For a more powerful attack, click and hold to charge, then release at the right moment to execute charged swing. Quickly click left mouse button after hitting an enemy with a slash to execute another slash. A charged attack can damage doors, background walls, and break enemy shielding for a while.
  • [Right click] - Defend with the shield, change the shield direction by moving the mouse cursor. It will block sword jabs, builder's hammer bashes, arrows and bomb blasts. Enemies can't pass through the shield, but the Knight moves slower and can't jump as high when he is using his shield. By making the shield face upwards, the Knight can also hover for a while when falling and can be climbed by teammates when standing on the ground. Charging into enemies while shielding in their direction will do a shield bash and will send the enemy flying.
  • [F] - Light a bomb, press [F] again to throw it. The bomb will kill enemies not blocking the blast, but it can blow yourself up if not thrown before the timer runs out. A lighted bomb's timer can be seen by hovering over it. Keep in mind that shrapnel from destroyed bedrock blocks may damage yourself and teammates around the blast.
  • [C] - Pickup/Drop items. Wood and Stone is not added to your inventory, but is carried and is visible to all players. Be careful about which items you drop since bombs can be dropped as well! Bombs are automatically picked up and do not require the [C] key to be picked up. [C] is also used to toss previously-thrown bombs. If the enemy tosses a bomb too early, it may be advantageous to try and throw it back! Press [C] once to pick it up, and [C] again to toss it back. But make it quick!

Sword

Knight swinging a sword
A sword being swung by a Knight

The sword is the Knight's weapon of choice.

Use it with left click. Short presses will result in jabs which are good for killing builders and archers. Holding down left mouse button will charge the sword. By releasing it while the meter is full, it will inflict 1.5 heart damage and stun the victim. A charged sword strike will also cause a shielded Knight to drop his shield and become vulnerable for a moment, similar to how they become vulnerable when hit by a fully charged arrow.

Using the sword Knights can destroy every block except Stone, bedrock and spikes. However, the digging speed of a Knight is inferior to that of a builder, and has a shorter range which in many cases prevents them from destroying drawbridges.

Bomb

Bombs can be thrown by Knights by pressing the [F] key. They can be bought at bomb workshops for 20 coins or looted from other players. Bombs destroy blocks in every direction and are very deadly, instantly killing all the players in its range except blocking Knights and allies. Allies can be damaged if the knight who threw it dies before the bomb explodes, causing it to damage all players regardless of team, so be wary.

Any class can pick up lit bombs by pressing the pickup ([C]) or use ([E]) key, and throw them back again by pressing throw ([C]). When an enemy bomb is picked up, it is now owned by the player. That means that it won't be harmful to allies, but to enemies, and any kill will be awarded to him instead of the enemy.

Apart from kegs, bombs are the only weapon which can destroy bedrock blocks, occasionally creating falling rocks that inflict heavy damage on enemies and allies alike.

It is also possible to perform a very big jump with a bomb aptly named the bomb jump. You basically hold onto the bomb until the counter is near the end and then jump with your shield towards the blast.

All classes can carry a maximum of 3 bombs at once.

Shield

The shield is the knights secondary skill. You can use your shield by holding down the right mouse button. To move your shield in different directions involves moving your mouse in the corresponding direction. If you want your shield above your head, you move your mouse so the shield is above your head. Your shield is used as a defense from damage.

You shield has many uses:

  • Deflecting arrows, blocking knights and builders attacks and halt bomb explosions (Hold your shield in the direction of the threat.)
  • Bomb jumping (In it's simplest form you jump off a ledge when the bomb timer reaches 25 [depending on your ping] while you hold your shield above your head.)
  • Stomping (Jump off a ledge and move your shield below your player to inflict damage on the enemy you land on.)
  • Shield bashing (As an enemy slashes jump towards him/her with your shield out and they will be stunned 3-5 blocks back.)
  • Ladder (Hold your shield upwards and team-mates can climb your shield like a ladder.)

Gameplay Tips

  • Knights are the most dangerous class in close combat, and can block arrows with their shield.
  • Knights are the most effective underground in close confines where their shield can stop the advance of far superior numbers and their bombs can be devastating.
  • When no ladder is available, Knights can use their shield to allow other players to climb over.
  • When below trap bridges (at least one block above your head), tap [W] to jump up and jab with [LMB] to damage the trap bridge. It is possible to scale a tower using trap bridge ladders (spaced appropriately) while exercising patience and good timing.
  • Use charged attacks to stun shielding enemy knights.
  • Sword Jab will clash with another jab if they roughly hit at the same time. Clash has the same effect as shielding the attack. This also results in a specific sound.
  • Use a bomb to quickly pierce enemy defenses.
  • Press [C] to pick up lit bombs, and [F] again to throw. Be careful as the timer keeps running and you can blow yourself up, though you could save your team from the blast!
  • You can make bombs go further by jumping and moving while throwing a bomb with [F].
  • The Knight's shield goes down after a powerful hit (a fully drawn arrow, landing hard, a fully charged sword swing, or falling rocks).
  • Skilled Knights have learned to use bombs to jump higher and overcome enemy defenses. Shield near a bomb to get thrown away. With practice you can control the way the bomb will throw you!
  • You can put the bomb in the catapult by pressing [F] and then [E] when next to the catapult. Then throw the bomb at the enemy units!
  • You can protect ally builders and archers with your shield from enemy arrows.
  • A more comprehensive guide on how to use knights on gamemodes can be found here.
