King Arthur's Gold is a team based sidescroller, in which there is combat, building and mining. The core of the game is two teams pitted against each other in a battle. The official game modes, or more essentially, types of battle are Gold Hunt and Capture the Flag.

Game modes
Gold Hunt
This game mode puts the teams in a race to gather the most gold. A team becomes victorious by gathering a set amount of gold before the opponent. Digging for gold is not the only victorious plan, players can also steal their way to victory. Gold can be stored in sacks in this mode.
Capture the Flag
In this game mode both teams have a flag waving over their tent. The first team to capture and return to their own tent the flag from the opposing team wins. In Capture the Flag, gold is still very useful as it can be used to build outposts that function as spawning point and let you change classes.
Classes
There are three classes in King Arthur's Gold: Knight, Archer, and Builder. Each class has different abilities, making each class appropriate for different situations. Cycle through the classes by pressing the [E] key on your team's tent or outposts and hovering the mouse over the desired class. You can get wood and stone in the preparation time (before the game begins) by returning to your team's tent.
Knight
The Knight is a combat-focused, close range class. He carries a shield and sword and he can throw bombs which explode in four directions just like in the Bomberman games. Bombs are thrown by pressing the [F] key; tap the key to start the timer and tap again to throw the bomb. Don't hold on for too long though, as the bomb will explode in your hands and kill you. Teammates are not damaged by bombs but any opposing player caught in the blast radius will be killed instantly. You can get bombs from a Bomb Workshop or from teammates. Bombs laying on the field are picked up automatically by the Knight. Your shield can be used to block any arrows, attacks or blast damage coming into your way; by holding the right mouse button the Knight will protect himself in the direction where your mouse in pointing. They also become a wall of sorts when facing up, giving the ability to form a wall of Knights. When falling, the Knights can use his shield to hover for a little while by making the shield face up. The sword does heavy damage to opposing players and can also dig slowly through dirt, can destroy ladders from an attack and a charged attack can damage doors. A charged sword attack can also momentarily break the shielding of a Knight and stun them, and a succesful hit gets you another full swing. Normal sword attacks clash against other swords so you have to time your swings against skilled players.
Archer
Archers are ranged players. They use their bows and arrows to deal damage from afar and can be quite accurate if controlled by a skilled player. While each arrow only removes one Health, a constant rain of arrows can pin Soldiers in position and pick off Builders from afar (especially because Builders often need to be zoomed in and may not be aware of their surroundings). Archers spawn without arrows but they can make their own arrows from trees by clicking the right mouse button or buy them from an Arrow Workshop and they can even pickup arrows from the battlefield. To fire an arrow, press and hold the left mouse button; holding the button for longer will fire the arrow longer and faster. Arrows lose velocity and begin dropping quite quickly, so you'll often need to aim a bit higher than your target. Archers cannot dig stone or gold, nor can they break down doors or ladders, but they can dig through dirt and climb trees to snipe enemies from a safe position. Skilled archers can even use their arrows to climb enemy defenses, making them a very mobile and dangerous foe.
Builder
Builders are an important component of any team. They are responsible for building their teams' defenses, they can destroy enemy towers, build siege weapons and build ladders and bridges for their team. Builders mine through materials like dirt and stone much quicker than any other class. The tradeoff is that Builders are far weaker in combat than Archers or Soldiers, with only their low-damage pickaxes to fend off enemies. Builders can place a variety of blocks of various purposes, including ladders, stone walls, drawbridges, spikes, doors, catapult pieces, outposts and workshops. These blocks require materials (stone, wood and gold) which can be acquired by mining or cutting down trees. Builders are very important in the offensive as they can break enemy defenses, build ladders, siege weapons and one-way paths for their team.
